Amazon Air has purchased 7 retired ex-Delta Air Lines Boeing 767-300ERs, the aircraft will help Amazon keep up with the growing demand for online shopping and the surge in cargo operations after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 7 aircraft will undergo conversion into freighter aircraft before being put into service with Amazon Air later in 2021.
Amazon Air, which was launched in 2016 and is based in Seattle, is preparing to open its brand new $1.5 billion air hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 2021. The cargo hub will have the capacity to handle 100 Amazon aircraft and will be able to service 200 flights a day.
Currently, Amazon Air operates 66 aircraft. The fleet consists of 44 Boeing 767-300ER freighters and 22 Boeing 737-800 freighters. The cargo airline has 16 aircraft on order. In 6/7 years the airline could expand to a fleet of over 200 aircraft.
