Earlier this week, England imposed a mandatory hotel quarantine for both Irish and UK residents arriving into the country.
The hotel quarantine will be paid for by the passenger and it costs a total of £1,750. This money goes towards the cost of the hotel stay, COVID-19 test and transport to and from the airport. This quarantine legislation comes into effect as it tries to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
Just last month, the UK passed the gruesome 100,000 COVID related deaths milestone. “hard to compute the sorrow contained in this grim statistic”, said Boris Johnson. There is a total of 4.06 million cases of COVID-19 in the UK as of the 17th of February.
Travellers that are currently in the new quarantine are saying that the cost of the stay is far too high but one person described the rooms as “not bad”.

Other countries requiring mandatory quarantine
Some countries around the globe have already implemented a mandatory quarantine. Australia is a key example of this mandatory quarantine. Residents of Australia have to quarantine for 14 days. The cost for quarantine in New South Wales territory in Australia is $3,000 AUD. Stay tuned for an article coming soon with a review of this quarantine.
In Scotland, passengers arriving from countries other than Ireland, England, Wales, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands must book a mandatory hotel quarantine.
In the Republic Of Ireland, similar restrictions regarding mandatory hotel quarantine is being discussed by the cabinet
Some may argue that this new quarantine is far too late given other countries implemented the measures almost a year ago, however, the new requirements impact will soon be seen.
