A Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 777-200ER has been impounded at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, in Malaysia. Authorities seized the aircraft after a court dispute over the lease of the aircraft.

A PIA spokesman said

A PIA aircraft has been held back by a local court in Malaysia taking a one-sided decision pertaining to a legal dispute between PIA and another party pending in a UK court,”

The aircraft, AP-BMH, operated flight PK894 before being stopped from flying the return sector. PIA is currently organising arrangements for passengers who have been left without a flight.

AP-BMH was delivered to PIA second hand in 2015 after operating for Vietnam Airlines for 10 years.

The issue is over 2 aircraft leased to PIA in 2015, courts have ordered if either plane operated to Kuala Lumpur the aircraft are to be impounded, pending legal action,

The second aircraft involved is AP-BMG, which is currently in Karachi and has not operated since December 2020.

PIA has said that they will attempt to solve the issue through diplomatic channels after calling the seizing of their aircraft “unacceptable.”

A hearing is set for January 24, the aircraft is meant to remain in Malaysia until the court issue has been solved.
