United Airlines has placed its largest ever aircraft order, purchasing 270 Boeing and Airbus aircraft, including 200 737 MAXs and 70 A321neos. The US based carrier also revealed its latest strategy plan, which included new seat interiors and new inflight entertainment systems.
United will also hire 25,000 new employees, which include new pilots, mechanics and flight attendants. The airline’s new plan called ‘United Next’ “will have a transformational effect on the customer experience and is expected to increase the total number of available seats per domestic departure by almost 30 percent”
The new order consists of 50 737 MAX 8s, 150 737 MAX 10s, and 70 A321neos. All aircraft will come fitted with seat-back entertainment, larger overhead bins and in-flight WiFi.
The new order means United have 500 narrow-body aircraft on order which will arrive in the coming years – 40 in 2022, 138 in 2023, and as many as 350 in 2024 and beyond.
200 aircraft will be used to expand the airlines fleet of 500 aircraft, while 300 will be used to replace older aircraft such as United’s ageing Boeing 757-200s.
