UPS 747-8F Suffers Engine Fire Departing Hong Kong

A UPS Boeing 747-8 Freighter suffered an engine fire whilst departing Hong Kong, the flight was headed for Dubai and operating flight number 5X-3.

Whilst taking off from runway 07R the crew received indication that engine #1 had exceeded limits at 400 feet, before an engine fire warning then occurred at 1500 feet.

The aircraft then stopped its climb and returned to Hong Kong within 15 minutes. The landing occurred safely, while the aircraft was overweight and airport fire services were able to extinguish the fire.

The aircraft, registered N624UP, was delivered to UPS in November 2020. Currently it remains on the ground in Hong Kong.
